During this years hike we will explore the various influences on a forest: glaciers, weather events and human activities (foundations, stone walls, logging). The hike will be 2-3 miles. The terrain is moderate to steep, rocky and uneven at times. Wearing hiking shoes is recommended. Hiking poles are optional. Bring water and bug repellent. Parking is onsite at 77 Peachblow Rd., Alstead, where we will gather to begin the hike.
Jeff Schadler has worked as a land manager, carpenter, and landscaper. He and his wife Koo have owned property and resided in Alstead for 26 years.
Peter Renzelman was born and raised in Alstead. He developed an interest in forestry from an early age. He studied forestry at UNH Durham and has spent 50 years managing small privately owned woodlots in NH. Logging was the principal part of his business, and that meshed closely with working with property owners helping them to manage the forest for future timber growth.
